On May 19th, Alz was in a head-on collision — hit by someone driving on the wrong side of the road at 40 mph. It was a near-death experience with a 1-in-30 survival rate. The first thought after impact? Not the pain. Not the truck. Not even the hospital. It was: “Oh my god, I didn’t paint Eggplant Jesus yet.” That jolt of urgency (and artistic obsession) helped get him out of the wreck.
Self-Portrait was created just days after being released from the hospital — completed in only four days, a rarity for Alz. The original 18 x 24-inch painting even includes his hospital bracelet, sealed into the work like a scar turned badge of honor. It’s raw, honest, and darkly funny — a visual reminder that sometimes, art really does keep you alive.
This fine art giclée print is 18 x 24 inches, with the artwork centered at 15.5 x 21 inches and a white border for matting and framing. Limited edition of 25, signed and numbered by Alz.
